
Nigeria’s Onne Port Complex has become the second highest revenue-generating port due to increased export activities, the introduction of an electronic call-up system, and modern infrastructure investments, as per the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
This assertion aligns with the federal government’s assurances that Eastern region ports are not neglected. The government insists that rehabilitation and modernization efforts are underway to enhance their operations and status as key maritime trade gateways.
The Manager of Rivers Port Complex, Kenechi Okaeze, representing the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, stated at a session with the Maritime Correspondents Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) that six berths are being reconstructed to accommodate larger vessels and enhance cargo handling.
