THE Nigerian Navy has enhanced its maritime defense capabilities with the launch of the SSV-KALI 3 vessel, locally built in Delta State.

This initiative aims to secure waterways, protect energy assets, and combat maritime crimes like oil theft.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, highlighted the collaboration between the Navy and Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), which will provide 10 vessels for maritime security.

This partnership underscores the importance of public-private cooperation in ensuring security for Nigeria’s critical offshore infrastructure, essential for economic growth.

The commissioning comes amid intensified naval operations against oil theft, contributing to a production increase of 1.735 million barrels per day.

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, emphasized the vessel’s role in improving local capacity and security efforts.

SEEPCO representatives acknowledged their partnership with the Navy as vital to maritime safety and exploration activities.
