THE Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Trade Unions within Nigeria’s Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has submitted a memorandum to the House of Representatives, advocating for an increase in NAMA’s share of the 5% Ticket Sales Charge (TSC).
Dated July 17, 2026, it highlights that NAMA currently receives only 23% of this charge, a figure set when aviation technology was less advanced. The unions argue that this allocation is now inadequate due to increased infrastructure and operational demands, including the need for modern radar surveillance and cybersecurity.
They stress that properly funding NAMA is essential for aviation safety and should not be viewed as a challenge to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The memorandum underscores that effective aviation safety requires collaboration across various sectors, citing the ICAO’s standards for aviation facilities. Adequate funding is framed not just as an institutional necessity, but as a national imperative for aviation safety.
