THE Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) identified the unavailability of the aircraft’s autobrake system as a contributing factor in the runway excursion incident involving Enugu Air Flight 4264 on July 23, 2026, at Benin Airport.
According to the Bureau’s preliminary findings, the Embraer E170 aircraft landed approximately 1,641 meters beyond the runway threshold at 138 knots under adverse weather conditions.
It added that without the autobrake system, the crew relied on manual braking and other measures, but the aircraft could not stop in time, veering off the runway and striking infrastructure before the landing gear collapsed. All 68 passengers survived without injuries.
The NSIB commenced investigations based on witness accounts and flight data but cautioned that findings are preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.
