THE federal government is evaluating a proposal that would allow airlines to settle debts owed to aviation agencies through future ticket sales instead of immediate cash payments.
The plan involves airlines creating digital wallets with values equivalent to their debts to agencies such as the the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
These funds would be converted into seat inventory sold through a Nigerian aviation technology company’s platform, helping airlines manage high operating costs without upfront cash payments.
The proposed arrangement involves an automatic deduction system from ticket sales to facilitate prompt payments to the government, aiming to help airlines avoid new debts.
