TRAVELLERS from Nigeria to Belgium currently use transit points due to no direct flights; however, a potential change is underway.
Outgoing Belgian Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt discussed the economic benefits of direct air connectivity with Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo, who aims to expedite the Nigeria-Belgium Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) before Leenknegt’s departure in August 2026.
The agreement seeks to enhance trade and tourism, addressing issues such as EU airline ownership clauses that impact Belgian carriers.
Keyamo highlighted Nigeria’s market potential and the strategic importance of Brussels, urging swift negotiations to improve travel access, reduce travel times, and strengthen ties between the nations.
