NCAA warns Moroccan carrier for mistreating Nigerians

NIGERIA Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has threatened to suspend Royal Air Maroc’s operations in Nigeria for consumer rights violations, poor passenger treatment, and contempt for regulatory directives.
NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Michael Achimugu cautioned the Moroccan carrier with tougher enforcement unless it commits to improving its treatment of Nigerian passengers using his verified X handle.
He said Royal Air Maroc has routinely ranked low in baggage handling, passenger care, and complaint resolution in Nigeria.
The NCAA sanctioned the airline in 2025 for consumer protection violations, but Achimugu said the airline had not improved.
He alleged that Royal Air Maroc’s Country Manager, Ahmed Boussouf, repeatedly refused to attend meetings at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja and instead sent representatives lacking the authority to resolve complaints or make commitments for the airline.
He accused the country manager of ignoring calls to improve treatment of Nigerian passengers, labelling the response as disrespectful.
He emphasized that unresolved complaints from paying customers deserve attention, and international airlines like Royal Air Maroc must honor their obligations under Bilateral Air Services Agreements.
He threatened to recommend halting the airline’s operations in Nigeria if it fails to commit to fair treatment, stating that the NCAA would not tolerate violations of aviation regulations or passenger rights under the current leadership.
