THE Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has warned that any actions that decrease its statutory revenue may undermine its operations and impact aviation safety oversight.

During a news conference on July 7, Mr. Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, expressed concerns over a decision to decrease the NCAA’s share of the Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

He highlighted the necessity for adequate funding to maintain effective regulatory oversight and noted that the NCAA is mandated to collect and distribute a portion of TSC to various aviation bodies such as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

Achimugu emphasized that reducing funding could impair safety standards and the authority’s ability to protect passenger rights.

The NCAA spokesman urged stakeholders to recognize the importance of financial support for the NCAA’s role as a safety regulator and dismissed claims of the NCAA being indebted to NAMA, clarifying that remittances are managed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
