Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has instructed aviation agencies and airlines to devise repayment plans for outstanding debts to avert future industrial disruptions.
This directive followed an emergency meeting with airline operators and unions after a recent industrial action at Nigerian airports.
The meeting emphasized allowing unions direct access to employees for distributing unionization forms, with potential sanctions for airlines restricting this access.
Keyamo also affirmed workers’ rights to choose their union membership independently.
Aviation agencies are expected to create payment schedules for indebted airlines, considering their operational costs and current economic conditions.
