The Federal Government has redeemed the pledge of house and $100,000 promised to members of the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
There have been concerns in various quarters that failure by the Federal Government to redeem the pledge might ruin the Super Falcons chances of the 2026 WAFCON also in Morocco.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, said that the players and their handlers would get key to their house this week.
“I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present key to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank account. We decided to delay the presentation of the key because we wanted a situation, whereby the players will be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON event, which will kick off in Morocco in a few days,” Dikko stated.
It will be recalled that Nigeria Women National team footballers, earlier this week, alerted that unfulfilled promises by the Federal Government to the present team could affect Super Falcons’ target of winning the WAFCON for the 11th time in Morocco and also qualifying for the next FIFA Women’s Cup.
Members of United Ex Super Falcons Worldwide said at a meeting in Chicago, United States, that they are shocked by the fact that the Federal Government is yet to fulfill promises of $100,000, land and other largesse to each player since their success story over a year now.
United States of America based ex-Super Falcons striker, Patience Avre-Odeli alleged that morale of the players presently training in Morocco is down. The ex-Super Falcons players said they are unhappy over the situation.
