Maersk Line has allegedly abandoned over 150 cargo shipments at Apapa Port, raising alarms from the National Shippers’ Association of Nigeria (NSAN). They argue that the delay endangers Nigeria’s non-oil export trade, leading to significant financial losses for exporters, particularly affecting perishable agricultural goods.

NSAN submitted a formal complaint to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council on June 27, 2026, noting that the cargoes have been stranded for over five months without resolution.

They demand immediate evacuation of the shipments, compensation for affected exporters, and regulatory measures to prevent future occurrences.

The situation could harm Nigeria’s export reputation and undermines efforts to diversify the economy. Efforts to contact the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for comment were unsuccessful.
