unnamed-2The League Management Company (LMC), organisers of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) says it has begun the process of paying outstanding salaries owed FC Taraba players.

Players of the recently relegated football club have been protesting non-payment of 11 months salary arrears.

According to LMC’s Chief Operation Officer, Salis Abubakar, the league management resolved to pay the players from their own pockets following the failure of the Taraba FC owners to comply with its earlier directive to pay the players.

His words: “On FC Taraba, we have told them despite the fact that they have gone down to the lower league but we still have money that is supposed to be paid to them. We have written them, saying that we are not paying the money for the club to the team, but directly to the players.

“Let us know the obligation of the players and give us their accounts as soon as we receive their reply on that, we are paying the players directly from the LMC.”

FC Taraba will compete next season in the second tier league, Nigeria National League (NNL) but could face expulsion from the country’s football competition if it fails to resolve the players’ welfare crisis.
