TotalEnergies and AMNI International have approved an $800m investment to develop the Ima gas field offshore Nigeria, ending decades of inactivity at the project.

The field, located across OML 112 and OML 117, is expected to begin production in 2028, with output projected at 350 million cubic feet of gas per day.

A 22km pipeline will connect the field to the Nigeria LNG terminal, with Ima expected to supply about a third of the gas needed for the Train 7 expansion.

TotalEnergies’ President of Exploration & Production, Nicolas Terraz, described the approval as “a new milestone” in the company’s gas strategy in Nigeria.

He said the project would unlock “new low-cost and low-emissions gas resources” following government incentives for non-associated gas developments.

The project is also expected to increase local participation and employment while strengthening gas supplies to Nigeria LNG.
