Passport intervention exercises by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have reached 8,552 Nigerians across the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom. The figure comprises 3,543 enrolments from completed exercises in the United States, Canada and Qatar, and 5,099 recorded from the ongoing intervention in the United Kingdom.
The exercises were conducted under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and community representatives. In the United States, the intervention covered Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee from September 7 to 15, 2026, enrolling 535 applicants.
Canada recorded 2,257 enrolments during its September 6-19 intervention across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick, making it the largest of the three completed exercises. In Qatar, 751 applicants were enrolled during the August 9-24 exercise.
The United Kingdom intervention, which covers London and Manchester, has so far recorded 5,099 enrolments and remains ongoing. The NIS said passport production and dispatch are being carried out alongside enrolment, with the UK exercise accounting for the largest share of the total recorded across the four countries.
The Service said the interventions were designed to bring passport services closer to Nigerians in the diaspora and reduce the need to travel to designated diplomatic locations. Nigerians unable to secure appointment slots or visit intervention centres can also use the Contactless Passport Application System to access passport services.
The NIS said the exercises formed part of efforts to improve accessible and responsive passport services for Nigerians abroad. The statement, signed electronically by DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, said the interventions had so far expanded passport access across North America, Europe and the Middle East.
