Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)

The Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday said it generated N631.4 million as revenue for July.

The spokesman for the command, Afiz Ajao told journalists in Seme that the revenue generated was N214 million lower than the N845million generated in June.

“In the month of July, we generated lower revenue because of the lull in trading activities. As the year roll by , our revenue generation will be higher and we will definitely be able to surpass our monthly target of N1.1 billion,” he said.

Ajao said that the command generated N9.6 billion in 2014, adding that the figure was 3.4billion less than the N13billion target for the year.

He said that the command would this year surpass the N13 billion target set for it. According to him, the command made 36 seizures in July with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N20.1 million. “The seized items include bags of rice, frozen poultry products, vegetable oil, vehicles among others,” he said.

Ajap urged Nigerians to desist from smuggling due to its adverse effect on the economy. “Smuggling isn’t good for the economy, so we must work together to save our economy and embrace legitimate trade. Illegal trades erode the national wealth, so we must learn not to partake in such acts,” he said.
