PRESIDENT of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Ben Nnabue, has advocated for automating revenue collection in Nigeria’s aviation sector to resolve disputes between airlines and government agencies.

He proposed a central electronic wallet to streamline the collection and distribution of funds like the Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) and Cargo Sales Charge (CSC) to agencies such as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and others.

Nnabue argued that this system would enhance transparency, eliminate financial leakages, and allow real-time account reconciliation, thereby ending disputes over remittances.

He also rejected claims that unions act as tools for government agencies, asserting their independence and commitment to workers’ rights as outlined in various legal frameworks.

Nnabue emphasized that the unions’ interventions aim to protect workers’ jobs and welfare, not to facilitate agency revenue collection.
