NCAA launches aviation fuel sustainability committee
NIGERIA Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has set up a seven-member National High-Level Sustainable Aviation Fuel Steering Committee to facilitate the country’s transition to green aviation.
Inaugurated in Abuja, the committee aims to oversee the implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) initiatives, as highlighted during an event partnering with international bodies.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo emphasized the importance of SAF in reducing carbon emissions and boosting economic opportunities.
The National Sustainable Aviation Fuel Feasibility Study, supported by the ICAO and EU, provides a strategic roadmap for SAF production from Nigeria’s biomass. The initiative is seen as a major step towards aligning with global environmental commitments while fostering national economic growth in the aviation sector.
NCAA Director General Chris Najomo emphasized the NCAA’s dedication to coordinating stakeholders and acting as the secretariat for the National High-Level Sustainable Aviation Fuel Steering Committee to facilitate the program’s success. He stated that the NCAA aims to establish Nigeria as a key contributor to sustainable aviation fuel development in Africa.
