Nigeria’s domestic card scheme, AfriGO, has reiterated its push to deepen financial inclusion across the country through expanded digital payment solutions and new product innovations aimed at widening access to formal financial services.
AfriGO, Nigeria’s sovereign domestic card scheme, stated in a statement on Sunday that it made a strong showing at the recent Digital Pay Expo 2026, held at the Landmark Centre, Lagos.
The event brought together stakeholders across the financial ecosystem, including the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, commercial banks, fintech companies, payment processors, card manufacturers and digital infrastructure providers.
AfriGO participated as one of the key voices at the event, underscoring its role in shaping the country’s domestic payments landscape and advancing financial inclusion.
In a keynote address, the Executive Director and Chief Commercial Officer of AfriGO, Ugo Obasi, spoke on the theme “The AfriGO Journey: Driving Financial Inclusion Through Innovative Payment Solutions.”
He outlined the scheme’s evolution from concept to a national payment platform and highlighted ongoing product development, including Cowry Terminal Payment Cards, a loyalty platform, the AfriGO-BOA Card Initiative, virtual cards and a tokenisation engine.
“AfriGO’s story is one of conviction, resilience, and a deep belief in Nigeria’s capacity to own and drive its payment future. Every product we are unveiling here is a direct response to the needs of Nigerians from the farmer in Benue to the student in Kano to the entrepreneur in Lagos.
“We are building infrastructure that works for everyone, powered by technology that is ours. Given the partnerships, the innovations, the platform we are building, this is what it means to put Nigeria first in payments,” Obasi said.
Beyond the main conference, AfriGO also hosted an exhibition booth that attracted industry stakeholders, financial institutions, merchants, technology providers and visitors, who engaged with the company’s products and explored potential partnerships.
AfriGO said its participation at the Digital Pay Expo 2026 marks a key step in its expansion as a domestic payment platform, as it continues to build partnerships and introduce solutions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s payment infrastructure and expanding access to financial services.
