MASS retirement in the Nigeria Customs Service is imminent, with 1,516 officers set to exit over the next two years.

Statutory retirement lists detail 825 officers in 2026 and 691 in 2027, affecting all ranks from Deputy Comptroller-General to Customs Assistant II.

The development comes barely a few days after President Bola Tinubu approved a fresh six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

With the development, Adeniyi’s position is expected to be vacant in the next six months.

The House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise clarified that the departures are statutory and not related to forced retirements or succession planning.

However, allegations have emerges that Leke Abejide, the chairman of the House Committee on Customs, is plotting to install his relatives.
