Devils of Congo

Nigeria’s Under-23 National Team, the Dream Team Eagles has moved to Port Harcourt for its final round preparations for the first leg of African U-23 Championship qualifier against the Devils of Congo billed for the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium on July 19.

The delegation led by Coach Samson Siasia, according to a release by the football authority, was received by the Chairman of the local organizing committee for the match, Boma Iyayi, on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Monday and lodged at the Hotel Presidential.

Nigeria and Congo will battle for one of the eight slots at the 2nd African U-23 Championship, taking place in Senegal between November 28 and December 11, 2015, with top three teams at the competition gaining automatic qualifications for the Men’s Football Tournament of next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, while the fourth -placed team plays off against an Asian side.

The U-23 squad is composed of 25 players selected from local and foreign clubs:

Goalkeepers: Daniel Emmanuel, Yusuf Mohammed, Emmason Daniel

Defenders: Segun Oduduwa, Erhun Obanor, Iroha Ebuka, Amuzie Stanley, Chima Akas, Atanda Sadiq, Ikechukwu Okorie, Nnaemeka Uzoma

Midfielders: Azubuike Okechukwu, Usman Mohammed, Tiongoli Tonbara, Godwin Savior, Emeka Kenneth, Etor Daniel, Olisah Ndah, Eteobong Elisha, Oladapo Augustin, Musa Yahaya

Strikers: Taiwo Awoniyi, Peter Onyekachi, Junior Ajayi, Etebo Oghenekaro

Foreign-based players: Imoh Ezekiel, Aminu Umar, Sodiq Popoola and Gabriel Abalo.
