Nigerian telecoms operators engaged in 51,251 mobile number porting activities in July an increase of 9,039 in the Mobile Number Portability activities in the month of July, in contrast to 42,212 activities recorded in June, according to Nigerian Communications Commission.

In the “Incoming and Outgoing Porting Activities of Mobile Network Operators” report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria, out of the 51,251 porting activities recorded in the month under review, 22,539 were incoming porting activities, while 28,712 were outgoing.

The report indicated in the outgoing table that telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, lost 19,314 subscribers to other networks through the MNP activities in July.

According to the report, MTN was the worst hit during the exercise, followed by Airtel Nigeria, which lost 4,047 customers in the month under review.

It explained that Globacom lost 3,290 subscribers, while 2,161 customers of Etisalat Nigeria ported to other networks in the period under review.

In the incoming table, the report showed that Etisalat enjoyed the exercise the most as it led with an additional 14,125 customers on its network in July.

It stated that Airtel came second on the gainers’ list, as it added 6,613 subscribers to its customers’ strength.

The report stated that on the gainers’ list, 951 subscribers moved into the MTN Nigeria’s network, while Globacom gained 850 customers in the month under consideration.

The exercise was flagged off on April 22, 2013 by the NCC with the aim of deepening competition in the industry.
