The National Sovereign Cloud Regulatory Instrument establishes Nigeria’s national guidelines and governance framework for cloud adoption, cloud services and supporting digital infrastructure.

Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s secure digital transformation following its participation in the signing of the National Sovereign Cloud Regulatory Instrument, a new framework designed to strengthen cloud governance and support the country’s digital economy.

The signing ceremony, held at the headquarters of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Abuja, brought together key stakeholders from Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. Representing Galaxy Backbone, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju joined the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa, and other government officials for the official launch of the regulatory instrument.

According to Galaxy Backbone, the National Sovereign Cloud Regulatory Instrument establishes Nigeria’s national guidelines and governance framework for cloud adoption, cloud services and supporting digital infrastructure. The framework also provides unified standards for cloud governance, covering areas such as data classification, data sovereignty, cloud security, risk management and investment promotion.

The company said the initiative represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to build a trusted, secure and resilient digital economy by creating a clear regulatory environment for cloud computing and the protection of national data assets.

Galaxy Backbone added that, as the Federal Government’s shared digital infrastructure and services provider, it remains committed to supporting the implementation of policies and technologies that enhance digital trust, strengthen data security and accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda. The company said the new framework will contribute to building a secure digital foundation for a smarter and more connected Nigeria.
