A landlord, Adekunle Santos, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly removing the  door of his tenant’s shop and carting away goods worth N995,000.

 

Santos, 63, who resides at No.1, Santos Avenue in Abule-Egba, near Lagos, is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, unlawful damage and breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Emby Ingobo, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on May 23 at 4.00 p.m. at his residence.

 

Ingobo said that the accused unlawfully removed the door to the complainant’s shop, Mrs Esther Demola, a hairstylist.

 

He said the accused also removed the complainant’s electrical wires and other goods.

 

“The accused did the unlawful act to prevent the complainant from doing her business,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 168 (1) (d), 273, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

 

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A. M. Davies, granted the accused bail in the sum of N 100,000 with one surety in like sum.

 

She said that the surety should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
