The North-East Youth Peace, Development and Empowerment Initiative, the socio-cultural umbrella body of the Youths from the North-East Zone has described the statement by Comrade Abdullahi Gambo, of the Coalition of Northern Youths Group that President Muhammadu Buhari should drop Rotimi Amaechi from the ministerial nominees submitted to the National Assembly for confirmation as a bluff.
According to a statement by the National President of the group, Alhaji Kyari Abubakar, there was never a time north-east youths were consulted on the matter by any association with the name Coalition of Northern Youths Group.
“We state emphatically that Gambo did not speak on behalf of the North-East Youths who do not dabble itself in political matters. The North East Youths are not aware of the Coalition of Northern Youths group and had never been consulted or invited for any meeting before he spoke on behalf of the Northern Youths,” he said.
Abubakar stated that the north-east youths has nothing to do with the nomination of Amaechi as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but want to concern itself more on how to end the ongoing insurgency in the region.
“Our major problem in the North-East is the insurgency facing the indigenous peoples of the North East zone and its devastating effect on the political, economic and the social life of our people.”
“It is not our concern to join Northern Youths coalition which did not seek for our opinion before speaking on our behalf on Rotimi Amaechi and others.”
The group urged Gambo and his co-travelers to leave the north-east out of the ongoing politics of Amaechi’s ministerial nomination because it has more serious issues affecting the welfare of the people to contend with.
