Honeywell Group recently launched its new lubricant, Synlube 5W 40 into the Nigerian synthetic lubricant market. Chairman, Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko said that the launching of the product came at the right time because Nigeria’s automobile industry is undergoing reform. He explained that the product, which is fit for petrol and diesel engines, will avail Nigerians value for money spent. According to him, Synlube 5W 40 is a supreme performance passenger car motor-oil formulated from the finest quality synthetic base stocks and state-of-the-art additive technology.

He added that the lubricant has been developed for all modern turbocharged, high output gasoline and diesel engines of passengers’ cars, SUVs, light vans and trucks. The lubricant has been designed to deliver long service life; minimises deposit in engine and turbocharger to ensure rated engine power and torque.

Otudeko was emphatic that the product was also designed to exceed the latest industry specifications and the car manufacturers’ service fill requirements. “Honeywell Synlube 5W 40 has outstanding thermo-oxidative stability that reduces deposits and sludge build-up, elongates engine life, improves fuel economy, delivers extended drain internal and reduces the cost of ownership,” he said.

Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Plant Manager, Honeywell Oil and Gas Limited, said the product’s extended low temperature fluidity aids quick cold start and provides adequate wear protection at start-up. He explained that its outstanding stay-in-grade performance ensures reliable lubrication even at higher load and operating temperatures.  Other good qualities of the product include its superior anti-wear technology which provides excellent wear protection under all conditions with its active cleaning agents ensuring maximum engine cleanliness.

Ekpenyong pointed out that the Synlube 5W 40 exceeds the requirements of most modern European, North American and Japanese passenger cars including gasoline powered racing cars, saying that based on available toxicological information, the product produces no adverse effects on health when properly handled and used. “No special precautions are suggested beyond attention to good personal hygiene, including laundering oil-soaked clothing and washing skin contact areas with soap and water,” he said.

He said the product is made of base oils chemically synthesised through a chemical process, adding that synthetic lubricants have wider operating temperature range, decreased evaporative loss, better sludge control, improved fuel economy and better wear protection leading to longer engine life   when compared to mineral oil. “We believe we can be the industry’s number one in producing world-class lubricants for the Nigerian citizens and the world,” he said.

Already, the product has received the endorsement of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).   Mr. Usman Ndanusa, Assistant Director of DPR said that the agency is interested in any innovative product or technology aimed at improving the quality of services in the nation’s oil and gas industry. “We are calling on Honeywell to partner with DPR in areas of conformity and regulatory requirement to produce with international best standards. We are very happy to see the product coming into the lubricant market and we also hope they keep meeting the minimum requirements of the standards for lubricants,” he said.
