Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome has said that the Department of State Services (DSS) released Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, when they didn’t find anything incriminating on the actor’s phone. Mike Ozekhome made this known when Agu and representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) paid a courtesy visit to the lawyer’s chambers.
According to the lawyer, his chambers took up Agu’s case after being briefed by the Actors Guild of Nigeria. The actor in the company of AGN representatives visited Ozekhome in his Abuja’s chambers.
On Thursday, October 7, Agu was first arrested and reportedly assaulted by soldiers for wearing an outfit resembling the flag of Biafra. Afterwards, the military authorities issued a statement, stating that the actor was apprehended after he publicly displayed his solidarity for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a proscribed separatist group.
Few hours after his release the following day, Friday, Agu was arrested by the DSS for “further questioning,” and had remained in the custody of the security outfit since then.
However, a statement by the lawyer said the police released the actor upon finding out that he was innocent.
