Oluchi Edmund, a contemporary gospel singer and songwriter who deploys music as an effective tool to preach the gospel of the Lord to serve humanity. Armed with a Diploma in Practical Nursing from Americare Technical Institute, Park Ridge, Illinois, she is presently studying to become a Registered Nurse in Jetmapp School of Nursing, Florida. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Chemistry from Imo State University, Nigeria.
Oluchi could be described as “Born to Sing” as she started singing at a very early age in her life. A member of the choir from her rural community through high school and even in her university days, she took singing more than a calling. She went professional when she released her first single, The African Woman, in 2005 and has subsequently released a lot of Single Contemporary Gospel songs. Her latest work was released early this year titled “I’m Ready”( I’m Ready To Serve The Lord). The album has hits like “Agi Nwe Ndu M and I Have God/Onye Oma M” which have hit the airwaves in Nigeria. Previously, she had some hit singles like “So Good and Don’t Be Afraid”.
Telling her story is like a tale of a talent that identified her strongest selling proposition but was busy engaging in other activities. But fate threw her thousands of kilometers away from her native Nigeria to the bustling city of Chicago, where the rhythm of urban life never sleeps, and a voice of profound tranquility is rising. She came to terms with this divine calling.

She said that her mission is to use her music as a vessel of comfort, aiming to bless humanity one song at a time. Her relationship with music is not a recent development; it is a lifelong covenant, her voice, a constant presence in her community, and home. Growing up, she understood intuitively that melody was her language of ministry. Over the years, she honed her craft, transforming raw talent into a refined instrument of worship and inspiration.
Her first single, African Woman was more than just a debut; it was a celebration of heritage and strength, showcasing her ability to blend cultural pride with spiritual depth. Even then, listeners could sense that this was an artist who sang with purpose rather than a pursuit of mere fame.
The years following that debut were spent in preparation and growth. A prolific writer, Oluchi continued to pen numerous songs, drawing from her experiences as an immigrant, a nurse, and a woman of deep faith. Unknown to many, some of the most popular gospel songs that got rave reviews across Africa had her signature imprints. She has worked with so many popular gospel artists in Nigeria.
Her dexterity and hard work culminated in a landmark achievement in 2018 when she won the prestigious Crossing Border Contest for African female composers. That laurel brought her to Chicago, and was a watershed moment, validating her songwriting prowess on an international stage and proving that her voice deserved a global platform. Three years later, she was nominated for the 2021 3Arts Award in Chicago.
What sets Oluchi apart in the crowded gospel landscape is her unique dual perspective. As a Practical Nurse based in Chicago, Illinois, she spends her days in service of the sick and vulnerable. This frontline experience during challenging times has given her a raw, unfiltered understanding of human suffering and resilience. She doesn’t just sing about healing; she facilitates it with her hands during the day and ministers to the spirit with her voice in her free moments.
Her music is deeply personal yet universally accessible. She writes with the intent to “bless humanity,” a mission that strips away denominational barriers and speaks directly to the soul. For Oluchi, every note is a prayer, and every lyric is a prescription for hope.
As she continues to balance the scales of medicine and melody, Oluchi Edmund stands as a beacon of purpose. She is a testament to the idea that you do not have to choose between your profession and your passion when both are rooted in service. With a rich history, a prestigious award under her belt, and a heart full of service, she is undoubtedly a rising star destined to leave an indelible mark on the world of gospel music.
Her fans are looking forward to the day she would be announced on the global stage for using songs and praises to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus.
