A 62-year-old security guard with the Federal University of Oye Ekiti, Mr Matthew Malik, has been killed on his farm at Oye Ekiti, in the Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
A son of the deceased, John Malik, told journalists on Thursday that his father went to his farm on Friday last week and never returned alive.
While urging security agents to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, he demanded justice for his father.
John said, “My dad was a security man in FUOYE. On that day (Friday), he was scheduled to go to work in the afternoon, but decided to visit his farm in the morning. It was his people in the university that called us that he was yet to resume at his duty post.
“Immediately, we went to the farm and found him dead. There was a man he had issues with regarding the farm and we are suspecting that the man might have masterminded the killing. Anybody who has a hand in the killing must be made to face the music.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said the command had begun investigation into the incident.
Abutu said, “I can confirm that the man was attacked on his farm days ago. We have started investigation into the unfortunate act. We will ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
