The 2020 Batch A corps members posted to Borno State have been exempted from Orientation Camp.
The National Youth Service Corps announced this in a tweet without giving a reason for the decision.
The “2020 Batch A Corps members serving in Borno State are exempted from the Camp resumption,” the tweet read.
It’s been reported that NYSC had asked the 2020 Batch A corps members to vacate camps nationwide after increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country in June 2020.
When contacted, an official of NYSC refused to state the reasons for the decision, saying, “They are those that could not finish their camping before the coronavirus broke out.
“It does not affect this current batch. We have been bringing them back to camp in batches.
“Some of them have been recalled in the last two camps. So, the last set is the one being recalled to camp now. But that information is just for those in Borno State. All others are going to camp in other states.”
Director, Press and Public Relations of NYSC, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, had in a statement said the 2020 Batch A corps members would complete their orientation course after the coronavirus lockdown.
The statement quoted the Director-General of the scheme, Brg.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, as speaking during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, in Abuja.
Ibrahim informed the NCDC boss that NYSC suspended the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Orientation Course just one week into the exercise as a proactive measure to avert the spread of COVID-19 to any of the orientation camps.
