The Commissioner of Police in charge of Department of Operations, Asaba, has directed his men involved in escort duties to desist from accompanying their principals to the five states of southeast and Rivers State.

The warning, according to the circular, is coming on the heels of incessant attacks on police personnel and facilities within the southeastern region by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The directive was contained in a police circular marked, “CB:0900/DTS/DOPS/Vol47/812.”

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Police Force has had many of its posts within the five states of southeast and Rivers State attacked in the last one month, leading to the death of more than twenty officers. The force, in conjunction with other security agencies have also carried out counterattacks on the insurgents which have led to the death of some of their leaders.
