The Senate extended the 2022 capital budget’s implementation to March 31, 2023, on Wednesday.
This came after a bill to “amend the 2022 Appropriation Act to prolong the implementation year from 31st December 2022 to 31st March 2023 and for connected matters, 2022” was considered and passed.
However, the Senate suspended Standing Order 70 so that it may read the Bill a total of three times before passing it.
Ibrahim Gobir, the Senate Leader, served as the bill’s sponsor.
He claimed that in order to accommodate the completion of present projects, it became necessary to extend the execution of the capital appropriation for 2022.
Gobir said the change came as a result of a holdup in the funding release necessary to carry out the 2022 budget’s capital component.
