The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals and recovered 125 rounds of live cartridges and a bag of weed suspected to be Indian hemp from them.
A statement by the spokesman for the command, Mr Asinim Butswat, identified the suspects as Solomon Ibe and Chris Amuka.
Butswat said they were nabbed by the command’s anti-kidnapping operatives at the Ovom waterside in Yenagoa, the state capital, while trying to convey the ammunition to the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
“The suspects were arrested while trying to ferry one bag of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and 125 five rounds of live cartridges to the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area,” he stated.
Butswat added that Ibe and Amuka were assisting the command in its investigation. He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mike Okoli, enjoined members of the public to continue to assist the police with useful information in order to curb crime in the state.
It was reported that on December 16, 2020, detectives from the command intercepted a passenger boat at the Swali Market jetty in Yenagoa and recovered 200 cartridges of live ammunition and a bag containing a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Three suspects were apprehended while trying to sail to the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
