The Kano State Police Command has said the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, was involved in an accident at the Dangi Interchange, Kano State. The Emir was returning from where he laid the foundation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Clinic on Zaria Road on Sunday when the incident happened.
The police command spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement, said reports of an attempted attack on the Emir were false, adding that it was an accident.
He said, “It is not true that there was an attack on the Emir. But rather an accident, which affected the last vehicle in the convoy of the Emir. Incidentally, when the Emir’s convoy was coming from Zaria Road, and heading for the palace with the siren on, all other vehicles stopped. However, the Emir’s convoy passed through the underpass of the interchange, hence one of the vehicles earlier stopped tried to move fast, thinking there was no other vehicle behind, whereas there was a last escort vehicle in the convoy. The vehicle, a Toyota Corrolla, collided with the last vehicle in the convoy, as the driver suffered injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
A source in the Emir’s convoy corroborated the police account of the incident.
