Morocco will face Cameroon in the semifinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after the Central Africans secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nigeria on Sunday evening in Casablanca.
Cameroon earned their place in the final four thanks to an early strike from Myriam Niadjo, who found the net in the 20th minute before her side held firm defensively to preserve the advantage until the final whistle at Larbi Zaouli Stadium.
The result sets up a highly anticipated semifinal against the Atlas Lionesses, who reached the last four a day earlier after defeating South Africa 2-1 in Rabat.
The match will be played at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday, August 12, with kick-off scheduled for 9 pm local time.
Having already secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil by reaching the semifinals, Morocco will now turn its attention to a place in the continental final.
The upcoming encounter will mark the first knockout-stage meeting between Morocco and Cameroon at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The two nations have previously met three times. Cameroon won their first encounter 4-1 during the group stage of the 2000 WAFCON, while Morocco claimed a 1-0 victory at the Aisha Buhari Cup in 2021 through a goal from Fatima Tagnaout. Cameroon also edged Morocco 1-0 in an international friendly played in Casablanca in 2025.
Wednesday’s semifinal will determine which side advances to the WAFCON 2026 final, with Morocco aiming to reach the title match on home soil for the third consecutive edition.
