Argentine and Barcelona F.C.’s super star, Lionel Messi has hailed his club’s unprecedented second treble in six years, just a year after a ‘tough season’ in which the Catalan club went without silverware.
Barcelona beat Juventus 3-1 in a UEFA Champions League finals match on Saturday to complete a treble of titles that also included the La Liga and Copa del Rey (Spanish FA Cup) titles. The triumph against Juventus sealed a fantastic year for Messi, who barely 12 months ago was reeling off the back of a World Cup final defeat and a relatively difficult season in Spain.
But, along with Neymar and Luis Suarez – both of whom also had disappointing ends to their World Cup campaigns in Brazil, Messi has become part of the most formidable front three in the world and helped lead Barca to all of the top prizes.
“The truth is to be here again is something incredible. After a tough season last year that cost us a lot, to rebound and get back here again is something spectacular,” Messi told a crowd of club fans that gathered at the Nou Camp on Sunday night to celebrate the feat.
“We have to enjoy this, but I don’t have any doubts that this group will continue to win because it has the desire and motivation to continue doing so,” he added.
