The lawmaker representing the Odo Otin Constituency at the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Olaoluwa Oyediran, has dumped the All Progressives Congress for the African Democratic Congress.
The immediate past governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, is from Okuku in Odo Otin and he is the one that prevailed on the Secretary to the State Government when he was the governor, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, to pick the governorship ticket of the ADC after he was defeated in the PDP primary.
The media aide to the governorship candidate of the ADC, Mr Kayode Oladeji, said in a statement on Sunday that Oyediran was received alongside his supporters by the leadership of the ADC including the state chairman, Alhaji Ajao Adelakin.
The lawmaker had while being received into the opposition fold said he decided to leave the APC because the ruling party had neglected the people of the state.
The ruling party lost four lawmakers to the opposition parties in one day with the defection of Oyediran because three other lawmakers: Debo Akanbi ( Ede North); Tajudeen Famuyide (Ilesa West) and Abdulahi Ibrahim representing the Iwo Constituency had dumped the APC for the Action Democratic Party on Saturday.
Oyediran said, “The APC has neglected and cheated the people of Osun without recourse to justice and equity. In this way, any right thinking individual or representative of the people ought to uphold fairness which only the African Democratic Congress is ready to provide.
“I am using this medium and veritable opportunity to recommend the ADC as a better alternative to bringing prosperity and happiness to citizens of Osun State.”
The ADC chairman, Adelakin, had while receiving the defectors said all members were equal and they would always enjoy equal rights and privileges.
He said, “The ADC is for all. This, I can assure our new members who joined us today. We don’t segregate here and we don’t operate like cults. We are one big indivisible family. So in the like manner, we are assuring our new members to see themselves as part of this wonderful family from the outset.”
Akinbade urged members of the party to begin vigorous campaign from house to house to ensure the people vote the party, saying the ADC would always welcome forward-looking people in their camp.
Akinbade said, “This is not propaganda, well-meaning individuals who have genuine love of the state at heart, are joining the ADC in droves as the new vehicle that will convey our people to a successful berth. This can only materialise when this is translated into voting on September 22.
“Our new thinking should be directed towards genuine development and progress of the state and its people. We should move away from shortsightedness that had characterised our essence in the past. We should be forward-looking. The time is now with me on the ADC platform and our people solidly behind it.”
