The Imo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party will conduct a fresh three-man ad-hoc delegates Congress across the 305 wards in the state this Tuesday.
This is to enable it conduct its suspended 27 house of Assembly and ten house of representatives primaries after the first three man ad-hoc delegates Congress in the state ended in crisis.
A party chieftain said that the national secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and the immediate past Governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, on Monday in Abuja closed ranks and resolved that a fresh Congress be held to enable the party in the state produce candidates for the 2023 general elections.
It was gathered that if the Congress goes peacefully on Tuesday, the suspended house of assembly primary election and that of house of representatives would hold in Owerri on Wednesday.
This, according to the party stalwart, was to help PDP in the state beat the deadline of the schedule of electoral activities as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
A party chieftain who was privy to the exclusive meeting with Ihedioha and Anyanwu and other party leaders said “the three man ad-hoc delegates Congress in Imo state will hold on Tuesday. The suspended primaries will now hold on Wednesday.
“As we speak, a five man electoral panel are on their way to Owerri from Abuja. The leadership of the party is committed to ensuring that the differences are resolved and Congress conducted to enable us hold our primaries.”
Reminded that the three man ad-hoc delegates Congress could be invalidated should the party fail to quash an order by a court in Abuja which mandated that a seven day notice must be given before a fresh Congress could be held in the state, the source said ” we are on it. It is being taken care of by the party. The plaintiff, Ugochinyere Imo, met with the leadership of the party on Sunday.”
The Director General of New Media of PDP in Imo state, Collins Opuruzor, said that it was true that the impasse in the party had been resolved.
He said ” I can confirm to you that we have been able to resolve our differences to the shame of our traducers. Imo PDP is bouncing back stronger.
