Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly disband the Presidential Task Force Implementation Committee on the Alienation of Federal Government Landed Properties operating in the state.
Governor Ambode made the plea in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Habib Aruna on Tuesday, following what he called increasing spate of ‘nefarious and reprehensible activities’ of the task force in the State.
”The Governor (of Lagos) calls on President Buhari to immediately disband the Task Force to forestall a breakdown of law and order. Their activities presently constitute a security risk in the State,” Aruna said.
According to the statement, the task force, whose existence and legality is still in doubt, “has unlawfully embarked on a brazen seizure, take over and appropriation of State and Federal Government properties.”
The statement reads in part: “The activities of the task force have left in its wake, a near total destruction, displacement, stoppage, including unprovoked mass harassment, intimidation, molestation and denial of the original owners of the land and properties.”
Mr. Haruna disclosed that Governor Ambode was concerned that activities of the task force have continued despite their knowledge of a consent judgment duly entered into by the same committee and some of the petitioners on one hand. “There is also an order of Interlocutory Injunction granted by the High Court of Lagos State, with the restraining orders widely published in newspapers.”
