BUHARI WITH PM OF SAO TOME & PRINCIPE

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that Nigeria and the Sao Tome & Principe should review the activities of their Joint Development Authority so as to make it more efficient and productive.

Buhari made the declaration during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Sao Tome & Principe, Patrice Emery Trovoada, in Abuja, on Wednesday.

According to a press statement by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, the Nigerian leader said the two countries also needed to intensify their collaborative efforts with others to curtail piracy and insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea.

Buhari, the statement adds, argued that with their shared strategic interest in the security of the Gulf of Guinea, Nigeria and Sao Tome & Principe must work harder with other stakeholders to keep it safe. “He noted that pirates, taking advantage of the present low level of security in the gulf, were causing incalculable damage to the economies of countries in the region,” Adesina said.

Buhari also assured the visiting Prime Minister that Nigeria would do all within its powers to enhance security in the Gulf while the visiting Prime Minister added that his country would welcome a meeting next year to review the management of the Joint Development Authority.
