Two suspected cult members in the Ikorodu area of Lagos have been arrested following a clash that left one person dead and many injured.
Our correspondent gathered that one of the suspects, identified only as Sheriff, came from the Oworonshoki area with his gang members, while the second suspect, Lucky, came from a neighbouring community, Oke-Oko.
It was learnt that the hoodlums, who were members of the Eiye Confraternity, unleashed mayhem in Igbo-Olomu, Ikorodu, over the death of their member who was killed on Sunday in the Ajegunle area of Ikorodu.
It was learnt that many residents were indoors for fear of being caught up in the fracas. The hoodlums, who attacked one another with guns, machetes and charms, were also reported to have looted shops in the area.
A source said a local vigilance group in the community, Onyabo, arrested two suspects and handed them over to the police. He said, “There was panic in our community on Monday night when those cultists started protesting the death of one of their members who was killed on Sunday. In the process, many people got injured and property looted by the cultists. With the help of our vigilantes, two of them were arrested, while others escaped.
“This clash is becoming too much in this area and residents no longer have peace of mind. Anytime they start their fight, we will start running here and there; we want the state government to find a lasting solution to the problem.”
Other members of the group who escaped through the bush were identified as Jelili, Fela, Aboki, Loaded and Small Sherif. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, had yet to respond to enquiries on the arrest.
