The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested one Likita Abubakar, a 35-year-old man allegedly conveying 53 AK-47 magazines to an unknown destination in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Ramhan Nansel, in an exclusive interview, said 260 rounds of live ammunition were also recovered from the suspect, said to be on the police wanted list. He explained that a team of police on patrol intercepted Abubakar at the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, while he was conveying the weapons on a motorcycle.
Nansel said, “A suspected criminal, who has been on the wanted list of the Nasarawa State Police Command for offences ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping, was sighted today (Saturday) at Alushi Junction, Akwanga LGA.
“A detachment of police operatives attached to the Akwanga division were immediately deployed in the area and one Likita Abubakar, 35, was arrested. We were able to recover 53 empty magazines, 260 rounds of live ammunition and the cash sum of N38,500 as exhibits.”
The PPRO also disclosed that a Toyata Camry with the number plate RBU 267 EU reportedly stolen in the New Nyanya area of the state had been recovered by the command.
“A detachment of police detectives attached to the New Karu division swung into action and were able to trace the vehicle to Kafanchan in Kaduna State where they arrested one Emmanuel Adakole Onyilo who was in possession of the vehicle and he has confessed to the crime,” he said.
Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, Adesina Soyemi, had directed that the suspects should be charged after the conclusion of investigation at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Lafia.
