Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has commended the management of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the intervention projects at the Finance and Logistics College, Naval Base Owerrinta, Abia State which were commissioned on Tuesday. He made the commendations in his goodwill message at the commissioning ceremony of the various intervention projects in the College which comprised: a 300- sitting capacity Academic Complex Auditorium, E-Library, ICT office and 12 Classrooms of 40 Students capacity each. Other projects commissioned include Administrative block made up of the Commandant and Deputy Commandant Offices and other 17 additional office spaces for the Principal Officers of the College, male and female hostels, students dining hall, swimming pool and gymnasium.
Governor Uzodimma who was impressed with what he saw on ground thanked the Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele, for the great intervention, saying what was provided for the College would encourage and enhance performance of the management, staff and students of the College.He equally commended the role of the citizens of Imo State and Abia State, especially indigenes of Owerrinta, for their support towards the achievement of the projects.
He seized the opportunity to call on other Institutions to also intervene and support establishments such as the Nigerian Navy, so that growth and development of such establishments which ultimately would translate to the benefit of host community in particular and Nigeria in general would be realised.
The governor lauded the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral AZ Gambo for the robust achievements associated with him within a short period in office as well as the leadership of the Naval Base College in Owerrinta for making available their technical manpower for the security of the Nation, that of Imo and Abia states and for the security of lives and property of their neighbourhood – Owerrinta.
In his welcome speech, Vice Admiral AZ Gambo stated that the commissioned projects would go a long way in ameliorating accommodation deficiencies faced by the College and also help in positioning the College to keep pace with National Board of Technical Education criteria for the National Diploma programme.
He sincerely thanked the Federal Government through the CBN, particularly the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to the provision of necessary intervention to the College.
The Governor of Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefele who was represented by Mrs. Amina Oni said the projects at the Naval College Owerrinta are part of CBN’s Corporate Social Responsibility meant to provide facilities towards enhancing a conducive environment for teaching and learning in Nigerian Institutions.
She listed the projects completed in the College and added that they are fully furnished, in addition to the provision of a 300 KVA transformer as part of infrastructure support for the College. She commended the Project Team for a successful and timely delivery and acknowledged the patience of the Navy while the project was still being worked on.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as the Chief Host, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly and his colleagues, the Chief of Staff to Imo State Government House, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie and other political appointees, Naval Chiefs, Police Chiefs from Abia and Imo States, traditional rulers from the host community among other dignatories.
