A one-story building with a penthouse collapsed in the early hours of Friday morning, trapping two women and a baby in Ebute Metta, Lagos. Rescue efforts were ongoing as at press time, but cause remains unknown.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the building collapse at 122 Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute-Metta, following a distress call at 9:00 a.m.
Director Margaret Adeseye confirmed the incident and stated that search and rescue efforts are currently underway to rescue the trapped individuals.
“Two adults and a baby, all females, are currently trapped, and search and rescue efforts are underway,” Adeseye said.
Adeseye reported that an adult female has been successfully removed from debris and is currently in stable condition.
“However, an adult female has been successfully rescued and is in stable condition, with the State Emergency Response fully activated,” she said.
The cause of the building’s collapse is still under investigation, Adeseye said.
