Hundreds of worshippers who attended religious service at the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in the Tudun Wada, Angwan Yanshi area, near the Federal Secretariat, Jos, Plateau State, escaped death by whiskers as two explosives planted in the worship centre were spotted and disposed.
Witnesses say the ECWA church was still in full session when the private security guard spotted two bags riddled with explosives close to the entrance. The brave guard reportedly picked the bomb and threw it off the church before it exploded on impacts with no casualty, except for the guard who sustained minor leg injuries.
The police anti-bomb squad, on arrival at the scene, also reportedly discovered another explosive device that was planted at the restroom of the church which was successfully diffused.
Plateau State Police spokesperson, Abuh Emmanuel, who confirmed the incident disclosed that anti-bomb experts were immediately deployed to the scene “to ascertain those who planted the explosion, and possibly, the manufacturers of the device.”
The ECWA incident occurred barely a week after an explosion from planted bomb claimed multiple lives at a Redeemed Church in Yobe State.
