The Benue State Police Command said on Sunday that it had arrested one person in connection with the killing of the wife of a retired Commissioner of Police, Mrs Eunice Aganya. She was killed in her residence on Austin Iwar Street, off David Mark by-pass, Makurdi, on Friday.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, said Eunice was to be among the chiefs expected to pay a courtesy call on a monarch in Makurdi on the day she was killed.
The statement explained that when she was not seen by her co-chiefs, a report was made to the police, who moved to where she lived alone behind her bakery. Anene stated, “Her car was seen parked in front of her gate and her fence broken into, but her doors were locked.
“The police team noticed blood stains on the window of the deceased’s house and curiously broke into the house, where they found the lifeless body in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the head.”
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Audu Madaki, commiserated with the retired CP, Ebezimako Aganya, and the family members of the deceased. Anene said Madaki had ordered full-scale investigation into the incident and stressed that no stone would be left unturned to apprehend the culprits.
“The corpse has been deposited in the Bishop Murray Medical Centre’s morgue, while one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case,” the statement added.
