Nigeria’s Super Eagles are expected to play the Mena of Niger in an international friendly in Port Harcourt on 8 September, as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) perfects plans for the encounter.
According to NFF, Niger FA, ‘the Federation Nigerienne de Football’, has already agreed terms for the Mena play against the Super Eagles on the September FIFA free calendar. Earlier reports in Nigeria had claimed that the NFF was in talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to play the Black Stars in London on the same date.
However, a statement released on the NFF website confirmed that the football authority is “holding talks with the Rivers State government” about the proposed venue of Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt for the match.
“We are holding talks with the Rivers State Government, and the NFF is positive that the Super Eagles and Mena will play at the Amiesimaka Stadium on September 8″, the statements read, stressing that the planned friendly is yet to be finalized.
“The truth is that we still have a few loose ends to tighten, before we can say that the match is sealed. Of course, we have confirmation from the Niger Football Federation that they have accepted to play the Super Eagles,” the NFF general secretary said.
