Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 6, Anambra State governorship election.
Soludo polled 740 votes to defeat three other aspirants during the party’s primary held at the Pro. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka. His closest rival Okwudili Ezenwankwo scored 41 votes, Damian Okolo got seven votes, while Ibeh kenechukwu Christopher secured four votes.
Samson Olalere, the party’s National Vice Chairman, who served as the Chief Returning Officer who announced the result said a total of 812 delegates were billed to participate in the election but 795 votes were accredited.
Shortly after the results were announced, the state governor, Willie Obiano, who is the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), congratulated all party members for the peaceful conduct of the primary. Obiano described Soludo’s emergence as a sign the party remains a united family, assuring APGA would win the November 6 governorship poll.
In his speech, Soludo described his emergence as divine, promising if given the mandate, his administration would consolidate on Obiano’s achievements by ethroning good governance in the state.
