Warri Wolves striker, Gbolahan Salami, emerged top scorer of the 2014/15 Globacom Nigerian Professional Football League with 17 goals following his brace in the club’s 5-1 thrashing of FC Taraba on Monday.
Salami scored the opening goal from the penalty spot before hitting a rebound from another saved penalty to put the icing on the cake for the Seasiders.
The 17 goals tally earned the former captain of the home-based Eagles the prestigious maiden ‘Rashidi Yekini Highest Goal Scorer Award’ recently instituted by the Nigeria Professional Football League in Yekini’s honor at the expense of Sunshine Stars’ striker, Tunde Adeniji who finished with 16 goals.
Adeniji, whose 16 goals was considered the highest for the season until Salami’s Monday morning brace knocked it off, however, fired blank in Sunday’s goalless draw against Champions, Enyimba, in Lagos on Sunday.
The 5-1 bashing of Taraba club confirmed Warri Wolves second position and qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League competition.
