A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has sentenced two men, Moshood Ogunshola and Wasiu Lekan, to death by hanging. The convicts were arraigned before Justice S.S. Ogunsanya on two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery, which contravened the Criminal Justice Act of Lagos State. The men pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecution counsel, Adebayo Haroun, the convicts robbed one Wasiu Rasaki of his motorcycle at the Ile Eja area of Ikotun while armed with a machete. It was gathered that they were arrested by the police and subsequently arraigned before the court. Justice Ogunsanya found them guilty of the charges and sentenced them to death.
In a related development, Justice Omolara Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, sentenced a fashion designer, Babatunde Oyelakin, to four months of community service for his involvement in cybercrime.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the 32-year-old obtained money under false pretences from unsuspecting foreigners through Amazon and iTunes gift cards, Western Union and MoneyGram money transfer. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Delivering her judgment, Justice Adeyemi sentenced Oyelakin to four months of community service and ordered him to restitute the sum of £950 to his victims and forfeit one Lexus RX350, one silver HP laptop, one white iPhone 11, one golden iPhone wristwatch and one black Nokia phone to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
