Croatia’s legendary midfielder Luka Modric has spoken about his future with the national team after leading his country to a third-place finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
It appears the Real Madrid man has made his final appearance at a World Cup but will continue to play for his country for at least, at the UEFA Nations League.
The midfielder said decisions concerning his future in the national team will be taken ‘step by step’.
Modric led Croatia to second place first four years ago in Russia but claimed the bronze medal after a 2-1 victory over Morocco thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol which was cancelled out by the Africans before Mislav Orsic netted what proved to be the winning goal.
“About my future? I don’t know if I will be [playing] until the Euros in Germany. We will see. I need to go step by step,” he said.
“I’m enjoying the national team, I feel happy, I want to continue at least until the Nations League and then after that, there will be more time to think about the Euros. But now it’s just going step by step and go at least until Nations League and after we will see.”
